A standout all-around athlete subsequently known as one of the region’s superb softball players, he captained the memorable 1938 Cherokee football team that broke a five-year drought in winning the PAL title.  The championship came with a 7-6 victory over Palo Alto, as Harder kicked the winning extra point.  An injury in his sophomore season terminated a promising college career at Washington State before World War II service as a B-17 navigator for two years in the Pacific.  Following the war, he launched a successful business career, serving as president of the Redwood City/San Carlos/Belmont Board of Realtors in 1962.  An accomplished softball hitter, Harder excelled at the World Tournament level with the Redwood City Merchants.
